Section 720.3033 sets who can serve on a Florida HOA board — initial certification within 90 days, continuing education each year, and disclosure of conflicts at least 14 days before any vote or contract.

What the statute requires
Complete department-approved director education within 90 days of being elected or appointed; the certificate is valid for up to 4 years.

Complete continuing education each year — at least 4 hours for associations with fewer than 2,500 parcels, at least 8 hours for associations with 2,500 or more parcels.

Consequences of non-compliance
A director who fails to file the required certificate is suspended from service until the filing is current.

Directors and officers charged with ballot forgery, theft or embezzlement of association funds, destruction or obstruction of official records, obstruction of justice, or other §720 criminal violations are immediately removed and barred from any HOA position until the charge resolves.
